Sound Residency

We want to empower local and regional artists with access to our space and networks.

  • Dave Wheatley - Hosted a free weekly sound bath training, open jam, and public third space.

Elizabeth Haigh - Recorded a strange sound library and prepared for KMAC performance.

Nadia Ramlagan - Used the place as a practice space and curated folk shows to support her first solo recording endeavor, after previously being an event organizer with us.

Chainsaw Doll (Connie Mae Kissel and Andrew Barnes) - Held a weekly practice space for themselves and collaborators. Gained empowered access to curate their own shows.

Sapat - One month residency of rehearsals for an ensemble of 10+ musicians, culminating in an event featuring touring artists S. Glass and Lara Allen. Recorded a film score and album. Strengthened an ongoing relationship with us that has extended for much beyond a decade.

D Alix Meeks - Monthly curated shows to develop songs for a new album and featuring a series of letterpress posters.

  • **What is expected of a resident artist?**

A resident can be an individual or a group. For this round, we are ready to empower residents with:

    - free rehearsal space

    - 501(c)3 fiscal sponsorship and grant writing support

    - event production resources

    - priority on booking

    - co-working membership access

    - walking-distance private accommodations in a historic home for touring artists and intimate activations (best if coordinated in advance as much as possible)

There is no particular final deliverable required. We will ask you to be involved in reviewing the next round of residency applications, and you would be welcome to nominate one of the next residents. Otherwise, we simply ask you to respect the boundaries of a shared community space.

These applications will be reviewed by the current Chapel programming committee. If you would like to express interest in joining our programming committee, please contact us.

  • What are we are seeking:

    - Clarity on how this residency will be helpful to you

    - Compatibility with our current calendar and capacity

    - All genres welcome to apply

In 2025, our programming committee was more drawn to applications that had a public engagement component or developed an online resource that uniquely used our space.

    Timeline:

    Round 1:

Application and inquiry scheduling open: Sept 1

    Deadline to apply: Sept 14

    Announcement: Oct 1
